UNODC Pledges Fair Reflection of Afghanistan’s Anti-Narcotics Efforts in Upcoming Global Report
The Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics met with Polak Ouk Serey, Head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), to discuss the organization’s upcoming global report.
At the outset of the meeting, Polak Ouk Serey said the purpose of the discussion was to exchange views on the forthcoming UN global report, noting that the achievements of the Islamic Emirate, particularly those of the Deputy Ministry for Counter-Narcotics in preventing and combating narcotics, would be reflected fairly and in accordance with the realities on the ground.
Deputy Minister Al-Haj Sheikh Abdul Rahman Munir expressed hope that the report would present Afghanistan’s achievements and activities in narcotics prevention and the fight against drugs in a realistic, truthful, and impartial manner.
He also highlighted the achievements of the country's security forces in counter-narcotics operations across various provinces, stating that significant progress had been made in preventing drug trafficking along the country's major highways.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Minister called on UNODC to provide practical support and pay special attention to creating alternative livelihoods for farmers in place of poppy cultivation and other prohibited crops.
